What started as a casual gathering of curious individuals—some used to swinging racquets of all lengths, others more familiar with holding pots and pans in the kitchen—soon found themselves hooked on a sport played with a paddle that looked suspiciously like an old wooden chopping board that is used for hitting a naughty kid.
Brought together by a love for the game, the joy of progress, the nervous tiptoeing near the “kitchen,” and most of all, the friendships formed on and off the court—something special began to grow.
We pushed each other to get better, stayed back for extra drills, and made supper after games the only bad habit that we want to keep.
Eventually we called ourselves Pickle Champs. A grassroots club that grew into one of Melaka’s largest pickleball community.
What started as friendly matches soon leveled up—organizing our very first nationwide tournament, where close to 200 players from across Malaysia brought their best to the court. But what made it truly special was the heart behind it: club members stepped up as volunteers, sponsors, and spirited supporters, proving that when a community comes together, anything is possible.
At the heart of Pickle Champs was Ong Jun Hang. He grew up immersed in competitive sports, experiencing the discipline, connection, and growth sports can bring. But after entering corporate life, he lost touch with that active lifestyle—until pickleball reignited his passion. It gave him a way to stay healthy, active, and, most importantly, feel a sense of belonging again. Wishing for others to experience the same, Jun Hang led with purpose—and under his leadership, the community grew, driven to help more people access and accelerate their journey in the sport.
Recognizing the potential to do more, avantej—a team that supports passionate founders, came alongside to help fuel the next chapter. With fresh support and shared vision, we rebranded from Pickle Champs into PEAKLES.
Our purpose remains the same: to help players of all levels access and accelerate their growth through structured play, experiential coaching, and a thriving, growth-driven community.
But this time, with a bolder mission: To build a leading pickleball ecosystem—one that fosters a strong economy, leadership & culture development, and sustainable career pathways across Malaysia and beyond.
